SUMMARY

Phase 1: After living on the land for some months now-simply observing (as suggested on our Permaculture Courses), we are now at the exciting stage of physically working on our Phase 1 activities, which include; tree planting, ditching for drainage, tentatively designing buildings, rhododendron removal, fruit tree planting and the inception of the Forest Garden, based on Robert Hart's design. In the summer of 1993, we began building our multi purpose workshop - built to an approved traditional design. This allowed more space in our polytunnel, (a unique wooden framed design) and also provided respite from the heavy rainfalls - 2 metres per year!

Phase 2 will see our Woodland Walk formed and existing educational links expanded to provide facilities for visiting parties.

Phase 3 will involve the construction of personal living accommodation which will include private visitor facilities.

Phase 4 will see the tree nursery expanding to outside planting, the culmination of some of our previous years work, which will involve the setting up of a buyers Co-op and outlet for our own and other locally produced goods and produce. Also an expansion of our Permaculture Visitor Facilities.

Phase 5 will see the building of a Crofter's Co-op of traditional design by the ferry point. This would be a resource for information on Organic/Environmental associations and a, "Living Exhibition", would be staged on the history of Sleat - its culture and people connecting the old traditions with sustainable practices being encouraged to-day - both in the home and on the land. This would also be situated close to the ferry terminal now presently used by some 580,000 visitors per year!!!
